About Merlijn Bakker
Merlijn Bakker has been playing the violin since he was seven. The longer he played, the more he enjoyed it, which led him to the conservatoire in Utrecht. He studied with Chris Duindam and has since graduated. During his studies he discovered above all his love of playing with others: with three friends he plays in the Rosko Quartet, which studies at the Dutch String Quartet Academy. Our cello teacher Eloise also plays in this quartet. He also plays in the Utrecht String Ensemble, a string orchestra he co-founded. In his violin lessons, joy comes first. Making music is much more than technique alone: it is about listening, responding and expressing yourself — skills you benefit from your whole life. Merlijn is convinced that playing with joy is the best way to progress, so he builds his lessons step by step towards a solid foundation. He also finds it important that students can be themselves, both in the lesson and in the music. Every student brings and asks for something different, and with genuine attention he hopes to bring out the most beautiful and most personal version of each student.
